About the Role This leadership position focuses on driving the technical architecture, execution, and operating standards for a leading decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol stack. As the Head of Protocol Engineering, you will move seamlessly between system design, smart contract implementation, security analysis, and high-stakes product decisions. You will partner closely with cross-functional leaders to define the protocol roadmap, lead complex protocol upgrades, and build a world-class engineering team to deliver secure, transparent, and efficient on-chain lending markets.   Most Important Architectural Leadership with proven experience designing modular lending and borrowing infrastructure, including liquidity systems, collateral management, and risk boundaries. Smart Contract Mastery and deep hands-on expertise in developing, testing, and deploying secure, production-grade on-chain protocols. Engineering Management background with a track record of hiring, mentoring, and leading high-performing protocol engineering teams. Security & Audit Expertise including leading relationships with external auditors, handling incident response, and defining rigorous testing and deployment standards. Decentralized Governance Engagement with the ability to clearly present and defend technical roadmaps and protocol upgrades to external stakeholders and community forums. Strategic Tradeoff Analysis to balance decentralization, security, gas costs, performance, and operational flexibility across on-chain and off-chain boundaries. Nice to Have Economic Modeling Experience to evaluate protocol tradeoffs, model systemic failure scenarios, and collaborate directly with financial risk teams. Formal Verification exposure or experience utilizing advanced validation tools for smart contract security. AI Tooling Governance experience establishing practical guardrails for the responsible integration of AI-assisted development tools. Active Open-Source Contributions within the wider Web3, Ethereum, or DeFi developer ecosystems.
